Learning Objectives
The prime objective of this assignment is to know about to manage people and that managing
people means managing power relations and political behaviour in organisation.
Learning Outcomes
1. After attempting this activity, you will be able to know Understand how power is played
out in organizational structures.
2. You will be able to know evaluate what might be bases for power and politics in
organizations.
The Background
Power is the ability of one person or group to cause another person or group to do something
they otherwise might not have done. Politics in organisation is activity in which managers
engage to increase their power and to pursue goals that favor their individual and group interests.
Political Behavior means that actions do not officially sanctioned by an organization that are
taken to influence others in order to meet one’s personal goals. Organizational Politics is the use
of power and influence in organizations. The perception of organisational politics leads to
anxiety or stress. When it gets too much to handle, employees quit. Power and politics are used
to affect decision making in the organization or behaviors by members. Political behavior is
dependent on having some type of power, or it can be a way to circumvent the lack of
organizational power. Power and politics can benefit or harm an organization.
The Requirements:
1. You have to discuss why power and politics are used to affect decision making in the
organization or behaviors by members. Discuss with solid arguments. (10 marks)
2. Do you think that organisational politics leads to anxiety or stress for organisation and
employees. Discuss with solid arguments. (10 marks)
